Arthur's Pass National Park

We spent 2 rainy but fun days in Arthur's Pass. We were recommended a hike that was just past the rain line beyond the mountains, 15km east down the road. Being without our trusty Palace, there was no way to go but to hitch. Not as easy as it sounds. We stood 50 minutes waiting before a renta-camper pulled over. It was strange because the 50-something American lady who rolled down her window to talk to us didn't actually look like she wanted to give us a ride. She relaxed when she realized it was only a 15 minute drive. After talking to the couple, it came out that it was the husband, the driver, who had wanted to give us the ride, not the wife, and had pulled them over to us. We had interupted a fight! Oh well, at least we got there.

This is the Bealey Spur. Apparently there is a little dot in there that is me.

We got treated to some Kiwi Hospitality again for our ride back. We had met a father and son on their way back as we were on our way up. The son had gotten worried about us (and wanted to get away from his dad), and so drove back from his camp to come wait for us at the bottom and drive us back to town!
